project: “THE WAY OF THE RONIN”
those shamed because they refused death, are now their only hope
“The Way of the Ronin” is a game currently in development with G-Devs // Creative Forge Studios.
RONIN started out as an animated short made with the Unreal Engine. I was drawn to the idea of the Grim Reaper fighting a band of Samurai, and the visual impact of being impaled by numerous swords. So badass!
In Japanese culture and folklore, Ronin are samurai who have lost their master and are dishonored by not committing ritual suicide which was largely expected of them. There was inherit shame associated with Ronin who would not accept death as their fate.
In the story, the Ronin are called to face the angel of Death, the Grim Reaper himself, and become unlikely heroes who find a chance for redemption. What poetic irony!
Below, is the original short film that inspired the development of the video game currently being developed and projected to launch in 2022.

Unreal Engine is a graphic and video game authoring tool. I used it to animate these models, apply motion capture data, to build this forest and rocky overhangs, to light scene and rig camera settings and movement. Adobe Premiere for the edit Adobe After Effects for motion graphics/titles.
